Structural Engineering

From the inception of Design ID, Structural Engineering has been at the heart of the company with the focus on creativity and a can do attitude.

Collaboration

As creative structural engineers, we collaborate closely with architects to develop structural systems that not only meet the functional requirements but also enhance the visual appeal and architectural vision of the project. We strive to create structures that are visually striking, innovative, and expressive.

We explore new materials and their applications in structural design such advanced composites, sustainable materials, or unconventional materials to achieve unique structural solutions that are lightweight, durable, and environmentally friendly.

By pushing the boundaries of structural forms, we can create visually captivating structures that challenge traditional design norms. We integrate sustainable practices into our designs, such as incorporating renewable energy systems, utilising recycled materials, or implementing efficient structural systems that minimise environmental impact.

We explore ways to repurpose existing structures, adapting them for new uses or transforming them into innovative spaces while preserving their historical and architectural significance.

Conservation

we are passionate about the conservation and preservation of the historic built environment. Fortunately, we often have the opportunity to work with buildings and structures of considerable historical, cultural and social value, and appreciate the responsibility that this brings.

University of Brighton Business School

A new-build Business School at the University of Brighton, Design ID's involvement commenced pre-tender for the successful contractor Gilbert Ash by initially undertaking a risks and opportunity review role to provide them with greater commercial certainty, risk management advice on the engineering, and added value opportunities to support their successful bid. Unlocking value in the scheme including removal of perimeter upstand/down stands, maximising the opportunity for pre-fabricated reinforcement and a resulting reduction in overall reinforcement tonnage, Design ID were appointed by Gilbert Ash to undertake the structural and civil engineering from tender to construction and project completion.
