Chris Lumsden

Chris has 15 years experience in the construction industry and is an Associate at Design ID. His experience in structural engineering design stretches across multiple sectors, with particular interest in Education, Bespoke Residential, Leisure and Community projects for both public and private clients. His work on Banbridge SRC and the re-development of the former Maysfield Leisure Cente, Belfast as the HQ for Concentrix Europe received IStructE regional project awards.

Chris initially worked with WDR&RT Taggart and Taylor & Boyd before joining Design ID in 2011. He has built on his early experience and developed a detailed understanding of construction techniques in a range of materials including steelwork, concrete and timber.

Chris has a keen interest in 3D modelling and visualisation in order to develop designs and convey ideas to contractors and members of the design team. He is keen to promote this within Design ID through sketching and the use of 3D modelling software. Chris has a particular interest in the use of Sustainable materials in construction and has completed the design of several timber frame and SIPS building structures. Chris was promoted to Associate in 2018 and has since led the technical structural engineering design on a wide range of projects. His pragmatic approach to design and solving problems has enabled him to successfully navigate a number of high profile projects within the company portfolio, and while doing so maintaining good relationships with clients, contractors and fellow design team members.

Fun fact: Chris was the King of Woolworth's pik'n'mix in 2001, with the most popular sweet being the chewie mints for the over 65's.
