Laura Killeen

Laura is a Senior Associate at Design ID with 20 years’ experience instructural engineering, specialising in building structures across education,commercial and residential sectors. She studied Structural Engineering with
Architecture at Queen’s University Belfast, graduating with a Master’s degree in 2007, and became a Chartered Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2014. Before joining Design ID in 2017, she spent a decade with WDR & RT Taggart, developing strong technical foundations and broad project experience.

Laura has a particular interest in digital design and is passionate about the role of BIM in improving coordination, communication and efficiency. As a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Supervisor with Queen’s University, she helped advance interoperability between structural engineering BIM tools and analysis software. The project achieved the highest possible grade, the KTP Certificate of Excellence, and she continues to apply this expertise through BIM‑led workflows and integrated design delivery.

Alongside her project work, Laura plays an active role in the profession. She is an examiner for the IStructE Chartership exam and currently serves as Chair of the Institution of Structural Engineers’ Northern Ireland Region, becoming the youngest engineer to hold this position locally. In this role, she supports professional development, promotes industry engagement and champions the next generation of structural engineers.
