From the inception of Design ID, Structural Engineering has been at the heart of the company with the focus on creativity and a can do attitude.

Structural Engineering

As creative structural engineers, we collaborate closely with architects to develop structural systems that not only meet the functional requirements but also enhance the visual appeal and architectural vision of the project. We strive to create structures that are visually striking, innovative, and expressive.

We explore new materials and their applications in structural design such advanced composites, sustainable materials, or unconventional materials to achieve unique structural solutions that are lightweight, durable, and environmentally friendly.

By pushing the boundaries of structural forms, we can create visually captivating structures that challenge traditional design norms.

We integrate sustainable practices into our designs, such as incorporating renewable energy systems, utilizing recycled materials, or implementing efficient structural systems that minimize environmental impact. We explore ways to repurpose existing structures, adapting them for new uses or transforming them into innovative spaces while preserving their historical and architectural significance.

Design ID’s expertise in both the modular and education sectors suited the vital need for brand new teaching provisions. DID assisted McAvoy with structural and civil design services to deliver a new Art and Design & Technology block. 31 modules erected offsite and assembled on-site as one building, provided 990m2 of state-of-the-art learning spaces with cutting-edge facilities for both Arts and STEM students. The swift turnaround time essential for this type of scheme is where Design ID can guarantee added value.

16 Charles Street 3

Featured Project

Charles Street, Mayfair

Design ID have been appointed as the structural engineers for the conversion of this Grade II* Listed residence from an office space to a fine dining restaurant.

The scope involves the justification of the existing timber floors, an assessment of the Edwardian period, cantilever stone grand staircase, and an assessment of the Georgian cantilever timber staircase. An inspection and maintenance strategy is also being developed for the multiple fibrous plaster ceilings.

Due to the high service demands for restaurants and commercial kitchens, Design ID have been working closely with the architect, building services engineer and the Historic England conservation officer to cater for these requirements with absolute minimal alterations to the building fabric.
