Design ID were appointed by PACE Infrastructure Solutions Ltd. to provide Temporary Works Design and Technical Approval Services (Network Rail), facilitating repair of a historic brick arch tunnel in Watford. The works were required to allow new Overhead Line Electrification bracketry to be installed. Having identified isolated areas of loose and spalling brickwork throughout the tunnel, brickwork repairs and associated temporary works were deemed necessary prior to installing any bracketry.
Design ID designed a temporary steel and timber formwork solution that was securely fixed to the face of the tunnels during night-time possessions of the railway line.
With railway safety in mind, safety clearances were maintained from the face of the Temporary Works to the railway line, to ensure that trains could remain operational throughout the repair process.
The project involved the following key activities:
- Designer’s Risk Assessment.
- Temporary Works Element Design – Brickwork Repair.
- Preparation of all necessary Network Rail Technical Approval Documentation (Form C).
