Warrenpoint Port is the second largest port in Northern Ireland and the fifth biggest on the island of Ireland. The Warrenpoint Port Redevelopment project focuses on upgrading and enhancing critical infrastructure while ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing port operations. The works span multiple areas within the port and include the construction of new lorry trailer parks, repairs and resurfacing of existing roads, the development of new access roads, turning areas, and junctions, as well as the repair of deteriorated structures and trenches.
Design ID continues to work closely with our client, having developed the Warrenpoint Harbour Master Plan and delivering a comprehensive design package to support its long-term success.
As Principal Designer and Structural and Civil Engineer, Design ID played a key role in the planning, design, and execution of the redevelopment project.
• Pre-Construction Planning and Design: Developed pre-construction information to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and identified risks. Worked closely as Resident Engineers with Principal Contractors to ensure safe and efficient project execution
• Structural and Civil Engineering Services: Designed infrastructure upgrades, including lorry trailer parks, container storage areas, and access roads. We also managed the repair and resurfacing of existing access roads and collapsed trenches and designed ancillary works including new fencing, lighting, signage, road markings, barriers, and drainage systems into the redevelopment plans
• Coordination and Safety Management: We ensured port operations remained uninterrupted throughout construction, overseeing compliance with CDM and coordinating multiple contractors across two sites.
• Environmental and Risk Management: We assessed and mitigated risks associated with existing underground and overhead utilities, including gas, electricity, water, and communications. We managed contaminated land risks during excavation and site preparation and oversaw permit-to-work systems and implemented strict safety measures for site workers
