The viaduct was built over 170 years ago and in recent years was identified as having hidden critical elements beneath the bridge deck. Design ID were appointed to carry out Temporary Works in support of trial pitting and repair works to the Craigmore Viaduct Cover slab.

Adman Civils was appointed to conduct survey and investigative works for the viaduct which involved excavations within the track support one of the tracks.

Design ID was appointed to conduct the slope stability assessments of the temporary excavations below the track to facilitate the assessment of the hidden critical elements.

The excavations resulted in the sleepers being temporarily supported by the rails which spanned unsupported over an excavation width of up to 7m which was safely justified in our design.

Design ID ensured that deflections of the rail were within the strict limits specified without impact on the track after the completion of the works.

The savings in the installation of temporary track support during the excavation enabled the works to be conducted within the restricted track possession window granted to the Contractor.
