Mark studied Structural Engineering with Architecture at Queen’s University Belfast and graduated with First Class Honours in 2023. He maximised his time at university, as demonstrated through his various achievements - notably: The Institution of Structural Engineers Prize for Best Performance across all stages of the MEng degree programme; the Creagh Concrete Structural Design Prize for Best Performance in a Stage 4 structural design project; and the Hugh Turtle Prize for Best Performance amongst MEng students for his Stage 3 research project.

During his placement year with Design ID in 2021/22, Mark competed in both the IStructE NI Graduate & Student Competition (2021) and the ICE NI Emerging Engineers Award (2022) where he placed 1st and 2nd respectively. At both competitions, Mark presented his university research on how optical techniques can be used to measure dynamic bridge displacement, along with the practical, safety and sustainability benefits it can have.

Mark is an innovative, forward-thinking individual who thrives off challenges and problem-solving. He has a growing passion for structural design and analysis, with his experience ranging from steel-frame and connection design through to geotechnical and Temporary Works designs. Mark’s most notable project to-date is the Sperrin Sculptural Trail, Co. Tyrone, where he played an integral part in delivering the structural designs for 4No. bespoke steel-framed sculptures.

Fun Fact: Mark can solve a Rubik’s Cube in under 60 seconds!
