Jamie Graham

Jamie studied Civil Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast, graduating with First Class Honours in July 2023 and returned to Design ID following several placements during his studies. 

Throughout his time at university, Jamie was awarded for his engineering achievements, most notably the prestigious Engineering Leaders Scholarship by the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2022, one of only several ever awarded to a civil engineer in Northern Ireland.

Jamie is the recipient of the Institution of Structural Engineers Northern Ireland Region Adrian Long Trophy 2022 for best student presentation at the annual Graduates and Students Competition and the Institution of Civil Engineers NI Emerging Engineers Award 2023. At both competitions, he presented his research into sustainable local cross-laminated timber, a subject he co-authored a technical paper, published in the international Journal of Structural Integrity and Maintenance in 2023.

In his spare time, Jamie enjoys travelling and woodworking, He is a committee member for the Institution of Structural Engineers Northern Ireland and Ireland Region Young Members Group, promoting STEM learning and engineering to current and future engineers.

Fun Fact: between 2022-2023, Jamie used his ELS Scholarship to visit several countries solo on three continents, including London, Singapore, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver!
