Climate Change is one of the most significant environmental challenges we face today. At Design ID we are conscious that the construction industry has a substantial impact on the environment. Due to the influence the industry has we believe there is huge scope to make a positive environmental change.

As engineers we have a vital role in promoting sustainability and sustainable development, by considering the long-term implications of our projects on the environment, using resources efficiently, minimising waste, reducing carbon emissions, and creating a healthier and happier environment. Through innovative engineering and sustainable practices, we strive to build a better future from the ground up. By integrating environmental, social and economic considerations into every phase of our projects, we aim to lead the industry in responsible and forward-thinking development.

We work hard to continually improve and develop a positive business culture, in that we have a dedicated Sustainability Team, promoting environmental sustainability awareness and practices, which is fed down to all staff. Through this, we have established our Environmental Management System (EMS) to monitor and mitigate the impacts of our designs. This system is underpinned by comprehensive policies and procedures designed to proactively address sustainability concerns and promote sustainable and regenerative practices throughout our organisation.

Some services and roles we are involved in:

• We have a certified BREEAM Infrastructure Assessor within our Environment Team to ensure our projects meet the highest sustainability standards. BREEAM certification provides framework for evaluating the environmental performance of our projects, ensuring resource efficiency, environmental responsibility, and long-term value for stakeholders.
• We can provide a Sustainability Consultant Role on projects to ensure the highest level of sustainability is achieved throughout the project delivery. Working closely with the project team to help measure and improve the sustainability performance.

We are committed to tackling the collective global climate emergency given that the AEC industry is estimated to account for 20-40% of all global annual Carbon Emissions.

We strongly believe innovation through the development of new solutions and digital tools has a key part to play in overcoming this collective challenge and achieving 2050 goals.

We have developed digital solutions such as EC Communicator to empower clients, collaborators and projects to make climate informed decisions.

We use digital tools to provide real time EC estimations on projects as well as continually seeking efficiencies in material volumes to generate large savings not only in CO2e but also in clients’ budgets.

We have developed workflows to assess, report, communicate projects embodied Carbon footprint. We have leverage our digital tools to enhance the carbon saving and reduce a number of projects.
