Improving a project's PMV (Pre-Manufactured Value) can result in considerable improvements to site programme and time on site which is critical for any project in the healthcare sector.
Design ID was instrumental in the expansion of Antrim Area Hospital to deliver additional medical facilities swiftly to meet the growing healthcare demands. The project involved the construction of two modular buildings comprising 44 modules, which were designed to provide much-needed additional wards for the hospital and associated mechanical and electrical kit installed on a raised steel plant deck. In addition, the modular team designed two volumetric offices, a 100-metre modular link corridor, and a traditionally built structure to house an LV switch room and generators.
The critical nature of this healthcare project required Design ID to employ innovative structural solutions for the rapid deployment of high-quality medical facilities. The use of modular construction techniques allowed for the buildings to be completed with minimal disruption to the hospital’s daily operations, ensuring that patient care remained unaffected during the construction phase. Pushing the percentage of the project which was constructed offsite, Design ID designed a 100-metre long link corridor formed purely in modules, compressing the overall programme and enabling a seamless install following planning and coordination during the design stage. The DID dynamics team were also engaged to analyse the floor structure to meet the vibration limits necessary for the wards.
Design ID’s involvement in the Antrim Area Hospital project underscores the structural team’s capabilities to deliver comprehensive and responsive solutions in the healthcare sector, where time and precision are of the essence.
