As Director at Design ID, Simon leads the Civil and Infrastructure Engineering team, bringing a balance of imagination, practicality and calm leadership to projects across the UK and Ireland. A Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, he has more than 20 years’ experience delivering bridges, roads, rail, public realm, geotechnical works, temporary works and marine engineering schemes. His approach blends strong technical depth with a clear, people‑focused way of working that helps teams solve complex problems with confidence and creativity.
Simon has built his career across both construction and consultancy, beginning with GRAHAM Construction in 2005, where early site experience shaped his practical understanding of how design translates into delivery. He later joined Doran Consulting and then AECOM, broadening his technical expertise and gaining Chartered Engineer status with both ICE and the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2012. Throughout his career, Simon has developed a reputation for collaborative working, building strong relationships with architects, contractors, clients and specialist designers.
Today, as a Director at Design ID, Simon’s leadership centres on nurturing a positive team culture, encouraging open communication and championing technical excellence. He is particularly passionate about innovative civil engineering solutions, especially within Design & Build environments, where he enjoys helping teams develop efficient, lean and buildable designs that reduce environmental impact and enhance public spaces for communities.
Alongside his project work, Simon is committed to developing the next generation of engineers. He has been a guest lecturer in Civil Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast since 2014 and remains actively involved in professional institutions, including the regional Concrete Society, ICE and IStructE committees, as well as having served on the IStructE Global Council from 2014 to 2017.
