Ronan Gormley

Rónán is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 15 years’ experience delivering innovative civil infrastructure solutions across flood risk, drainage and SuDS, utilities, highways, and earthworks design from masterplanning through to construction. His experience includes the successful delivery of several award‑winning projects, recognised for both technical excellence and buildability.

After graduating from Queen’s University Belfast in 2010, Rónán began his career in London with Buro Happold, working on a wide range of residential, education, commercial and heritage projects across the UK and internationally. He subsequently undertook a two‑year secondment to Kuwait, where he supervised major construction works for the landmark Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City a new coastal city development that significantly broadened his large‑scale infrastructure and construction experience.

Rónán joined Design ID in 2018 to develop the company Civil Engineering offering and setup a new team which continues to grow, supporting projects across the UK, Ireland and internationally. Now a Senior Associate, Rónán leads civil engineering design on a diverse portfolio of projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and maintaining close working relationships with clients, contractors and key stakeholders.

The team delivers high‑quality, coordinated design solutions across a wide range of sectors, with particular expertise in Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and Data Centres. Rónán has extensive experience delivering projects on complex, constrained sites and is valued for his ability to develop practical, efficient solutions that add real value during both design and construction.

Alongside his project delivery role, Rónán is the ICE Northern Ireland Honorary Secretary and a member of the ICE NI Committee. He actively supports professional development within the industry as an ICE Mentor and regularly contributes to education through guest lectures at Queen’s University Belfast.

Rónán is known for his calm and collaborative approach, clear technical leadership, and a strong commitment to delivering well‑considered, buildable engineering solutions that meet client objectives.
