Amy Dillon

Amy Dillon is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Associate at Design ID, where she leads civil and infrastructure projects across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Her experience includes contractor design, project management, construction safety, temporary works, rail, bridges, marine infrastructure and active travel. She also leads Design ID’s work in health and safety, staff development, business improvement and social value.

Before joining Design ID, Amy worked as Senior Site Engineer on the £118 million Northern Spire Bridge in Sunderland. Her wider contracting experience includes the delivery of schools, shopping centres, industrial facilities and a large-scale battery manufacturing plant. This practical construction background gives her a strong understanding of buildability, programme, risk and safe project delivery.

Amy is a Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. She brings a practical understanding of how projects are designed, managed and delivered on site, working closely with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to develop safe, buildable and effective engineering solutions.

Alongside her role at Design ID, Amy is a Director of Think Design Engineer Foundation and Project Director of The Big Bridge, a hands-on STEM outreach programme that has engaged more than 7,000 young people across Ireland. She has also developed several recognised engineering education initiatives, including the award-winning Zombie Apocalypse Workshop and the Institution of Civil Engineers’ CityZen digital simulation game.

Amy is committed to improving diversity, inclusion and access within engineering. She mentors early-career engineers, contributes to professional institutions and leads programmes that help young people understand the range of careers available within engineering and construction.

In 2025, Amy was awarded the Women’s Engineering Society Prize at the IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year Awards in recognition of her engineering achievements and commitment to improving diversity within the profession. Her other accolades include Royal Academy of Engineering Young Engineer of the Year, recognition in the Top 50 Women in Engineering and the Construction News Rising Star award.

Amy combines technical experience, practical delivery and a strong commitment to improving the profession and the communities it serves.
